Typical applications for PVC Rod:
One of the common applications for PVC Rod is within the automotive industry due to its low weight, toughness and good fire rating. Further applications are within the water industry due to its low prices, moisture resistance and chemical resistance. PVC Rod can also be found within numerous machines and components that require high electrical insulation.
Size Range of PVC Rod:
PVC Rod is typically available in diameters ranging from as small as 6mm diameter upto ass large as 300mm diameter. Typical manufacturers produce PVC Rod at 2000mm long but in the larger diameters, only 1000mm lengths are manufactured due to the large weights involved.
How PVC is made:
It starts off with the electrolisis of salt water to produce a chemical called chlorine, this is then combined with an oil derivative called ethylene and this final combination is then polymerised to form PVC.
How PVC Rod is made:
The polymer is heated to allow "flow" and stored in large tanks, this heated polymer is then forced at great pressure through dies by using an archimedes screw. The result is an accurate PVC Rod that is very dense and easily machined.
